The Korean car manufacturer has added an updated version of the Hyundai i20 to its portfolio, which has also been launched in India, alongside the overseas markets. In addition to that, the i20 N-Line has also been launched.
Apart from that, Hyundai India has also axed the torquey 1.5-litre diesel engine as the majority of Indian patrons are experiencing several drawbacks of owning a diesel vehicle. As of September 2023, only four Hyundai cars in India are available in diesel. You can check out the curated list on the autoX website.
So, if you are planning to buy a hatchback, below are a few things that you should know about the Hyundai i20 facelift. Let’s read on, then.
Since it’s a facelift, it is tacit that the concerned model has gone through several revamps. That said, the 2023 Hyundai i20 now incorporates L-shaped LED DRLs, a parametric jewel pattern grille (finished in black) and a revised front bumper. The L-shaped LED DRLs, however, are the most notable offerings that are present on the front fascia. As for the bonnet, it boasts prominent character lines that give an imposing look to the front end of the 2023 i20.
Coming to the side profile, it is the same as the pre-facelift. However, the skirting of the Hyundai i20 has the “i20” badging embossed on it. Besides that, you will also notice chrome-finished door handles and a chrome-finished window frame. In addition, this hatchback has received a new set of 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
As for the rear end, it requires a keen eye to distinguish it from its pre-facelift version. The Z-shaped LED taillights are retained but it has an updated rear bumper, especially the lower section that now features a silver skid plate.
Before listing the features, it should be worth noting that the offerings mentioned in this article belong to the top variant of the 2023 Hyundai i20, the Asta (O) IVT DT. Check out the i20 price here.
Overall, the 2023 i20 is the same as the previous iteration. But, unlike the 2022 i20’s all-black interior, the new model now gets a dual-tone upholstery with black and beige colour schemes. The features, however, are the same as before. The main inclusion is the USB-C type charging port. Further, it continues to boast a fully digital instrument cluster with adjustable brightness, a 10.25-inch (optional 8-inch touchscreen) floating touchscreen instrument cluster, a Bose-sourced audio system and Hyundai’s BlueLink connectivity.
Further, it has a wireless charger, ambient sounds of nature, ambient lighting, a single-pane sunroof, a cooled glove box, voice commands, a GPS navigation system, Alexa compatibility, and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel. Given the 2023 i20’s price, especially the top model, you will get auto HVAC, cabin-boot access, a reverse camera with guidance with rear parking sensors, cruise control, an adjustable steering wheel (tilt and telescopic functions), etc.
The Hyundai i20 being one of the best hatchbacks also has connected car technology that includes features, such as OTA updates, live location, last parked location, geo-fencing, emergency call, remote a/c on/off via app, remote car lock/unlock via app, and other relevant information.
For convenience, it is equipped with power windows, a rear wiper with a defogger, an electric tailgate release, and rain-sensing wipers with a washer, among others.
As far as the exterior lighting is concerned, the Hyundai i20 continues to have LED projector lights, passive cornering lights, LED tail lights, LED DRLs, halogen fog lamps, and puddle lamps with a welcome function.
Given the 2023 i20 price, it offers improved safety features to the customers. That said, it is now equipped with six airbags as standard. More on safety, it has a tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, ESC, hill-start assist, vehicle stability management control (VSM), and traction control. Further, it has an emergency brake light flashing, speed-sensing door lock, child-safety lock, auto-headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and auto-dimming IRVM.
But, if you want to know the overall build quality of this hatchback, it is decent. Because it received a three-star safety rating from the Global NCAP.
Under the hood of the Hyundai i20, it has a 1.2-litre Kappa unit, which is a naturally-aspirate, four-cylinder, petrol mill, which is tuned to churn out 87 bhp at 6000 rpm and 114.7 Nm of peak torque at 1500 rpm. But 87 bhp will be generated exclusively from an IVT unit, while the five-speed manual will release a lower state of power, rated at 81 bhp.
The fuel tank capacity is rated at 37 litres.

As far as the suspension setup is concerned, the Hyundai cars stands on a McPherson Strut at the front and a coupled torsion beam axle at the rear. Plus, the braking duties are take care of by disc-drum brakes. The disc-drum brake setup is standard across the variants. In addition, it is worth mentioning that the homegrown vehicles are engineer by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. Having said that, the Hyundai i20 has proven its well-suited ride quality on the Indian roads.
